DRC OUTREACH COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
January 15, 2010

The Dakota Resource Council Outreach Coordinator is responsible for maximizing the outreach and internal fundraising capacity of DRC related to energy issues and other DRC issues and activities. This entails responsibility for individual giving and special events, and also for presenting as effectively as possible DRC’s public face through a variety of media. Under the supervision of the Staff Director, and in concert with the DRC Stewardship Growth Committees, the Outreach Coordinator is responsible for:

  1. Working with the Staff Director and Stewardship Growth Committee to develop an annual DRC membership development and internal income plan.
  2. Working with the Staff Director to update and implement DRC’s annual Big Donor program, identifying prospective donors, conducting big donor visits, and recruiting and training staff and volunteers to assist with the program.
  3. Overseeing DRC’s annual direct mail program.
  4. Working with the Office Manager to monitor and improve DRC’s membership retention program.
  5. Working with the Office Manager to carry out DRC’s existing fundraising events, including the Big Bucks raffle, annual meeting business sponsorship program and silent auction.
  6. Working with the Stewardship Growth Committee to explore development of additional statewide internal fundraising events and activities.
  7. Consulting with organizing staff, local affiliates and task forces on opportunities to enhance grassroots fundraising to benefit issue campaigns.
  8. Taking primary responsibility for updating and enhancing DRC’s website and action alert system and managing DRC’s participation in the Re-Amp website and coal wiki.
  9. Working with the Staff Director to write and edit the bi-monthly Dakota Counsel.
  10. Working with the Staff Director to explore design and implementation of a published DRC annual report.
  11. Working with Staff Director and organizing staff to review and assist with all press releases, opinion pieces and other press work.
  12. Working with organizing staff to assess the need for new factsheets and develop them.

REQUIREMENTS FOR OUTREACH COORDINATOR UPON HIRING

  1. Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization, and the community organizing approach to social change.
  2. Excellent communication and people skills, and ability to write and edit press materials.
  3. Fundraising ability.
  4. High level of maturity.
  5. Capacity to work independently as an exempt, or salaried, employee on a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.
  6. Willing to travel both in- and out-of-state as necessary, using a DRC vehicle when possible, but able to use a personal vehicle (with mileage compensation) when necessary.
  7. Two year commitment to job preferable.
  8. Experience in journalism or fundraising preferable.
