Opponents of Country of Origin Labeling, including
the beef packers, claim that COOL will increase the cost of beef
to the consumer. Their real concern is that COOL will force them
to share the profits with the actual producers of beef and offer
their consumers a tangible choice.
The attached graph from DTN/AgDayta shows the record high share
of the retail beef dollar claimed by meat packers in June 2003.
