One year in Home on the Range

On May 22, we celebrated our first year in our energy efficient and sustainable office building, Home on the Range—and what a difference a year makes!

We’ve generated 37 percent of our electricity with solar panels, saving $1,600 in energy bills.

We’ve prevented production of about 60 tons of carbon dioxide through our low energy footprint.

We’ve used 59 percent less water than an average office building.

We’ve received an EcoStar award for our efforts to reduce solid and hazardous waste generation and conserve valuable resources such as water, energy and clean air.

We’re 79% more efficient than a regular building of our size.

We’re at less than 10% of the carbon emissions of a regular building.

We’re enjoying a comfortable 74 degree temperature in the building interior even with sustained temperatures of over 90 degrees, thanks to the evaporative cooler.

We’re sending surplus solar power back to our electric utility.

We’re featured as one of the best development practices in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming in “Building from the Best of the Northern Rockies”, a publication by the Sonoran Institute.
