Call on Congress to reject the TPP

Last week, trade ministers gathered in New Zealand to sign the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). This week, people across the nation are calling on Congress to reject the trade deal as part of a National Call-in Day to Against the TPP.

Join thousands of others urging your members of Congress to oppose the TPP.

Call toll-free 1-855-856-7545.

You will hear a short recording with some talking points about the TPP, and you’ll then be asked to type in your Zip Code. Then you’ll be automatically connected to your U.S. Representative’s office. You can say:

“I’m calling from [CITY/TOWN] to ask my Representative to publicly oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Can I please leave my name and address so that you can let me know their position on the TPP?”

Though the TPP was signed last week, it was merely ceremonial. Congress must give final approval of the trade deal.

As long as both the U.S. House and Senate do not approve the deal — and the U.S. president does not sign that implementing legislation — then the TPP will be stopped.

In a Feb. 8 letter to the editor in the Dickinson Press, Dakota Resource Council member Link

These are not the usual agreements to encourage trade. They give corporations the power to undercut our environmental, health, safety, and labor laws and regulations. The TPP would trump U.S laws and policies.

WORC and seven member groups were among 1,500 labor, environmental, consumer advocates and faith groups on a letter sent to Congress in January demanding lawmakers block the TPP. The letter said the TPP poses significant threats to American jobs and wages, the environment, food safety and public health, and that falls far short of establishing the high standards the United States should require in a 21st Century trade agreement.
